Lexus Warranty & Complimentary Maintenance in Canada: What’s Actually Covered

Lexus Guide

What a new Lexus warranty covers in Canada: 4-year comprehensive, 6-year powertrain, hybrid battery and roadside coverage, plus the two complimentary maintenance visits. Plain-English guidance from Frank Qian in Vancouver.

Right after “What’s the payment?”, one of the most common questions I hear is: “So what’s actually included once I drive it home?”

A new Lexus in Canada comes with several separate coverages, each with its own time and kilometre limit, plus two complimentary maintenance visits. Here’s how they fit together.

The Short Answer

For each warranty, coverage ends at the months or kilometres listed, whichever comes first.

When Does the Warranty Start?

This one surprises people. According to Lexus Canada’s 2026 Warranty and Services Guide, coverage begins on the warranty registration date shown on the New Vehicle Information Statement. That is the original in-service date, and it may be earlier than your date of sale.

If you’re looking at a vehicle that was already put into service, for example a former demonstrator, ask for the warranty registration date so you know exactly how much coverage remains.

What the Comprehensive Warranty Covers

Lexus Canada describes the comprehensive coverage as repairs on any original Lexus part that is defective in material or workmanship under normal use. Covered repairs are made at no charge for parts and labour, and Lexus says warranty service is available at any Lexus dealership in North America.

The powertrain warranty runs longer and covers major components such as the engine, transmission or transaxle, and drive system parts. On hybrids, the guide notes that the hybrid transaxle (with motors) falls under the powertrain warranty.

Hybrid and Electric Lexus Coverage

Lexus self-charging hybrids carry the same warranty as gas models, plus extra electrified coverage:

For battery-electric models such as the RZ, the 2026 guide lists BEV-specific components, the EV traction battery and EV battery capacity at 96 months / 160,000 km. The capacity coverage applies when battery capacity falls below 70% of the original.

If you’re considering a plug-in hybrid such as the NX 450h+ or RX 450h+, ask for the warranty booklet for that exact model and model year so you can see which electrified coverage applies.

The Two Complimentary Maintenance Visits

Lexus Canada says every new Lexus service schedule begins with two complimentary visits.

1,600 km or 1-Month Check-In

A walk-around with a Lexus-trained technician or service advisor, help setting up or adjusting your personal vehicle settings, and answers to questions about how the vehicle works. Lexus Canada’s maintenance page also lists an under-the-hood visual inspection. Lexus notes that certain exceptions apply for 2016 and newer model years, so check with your dealership.

8,000 km or 6-Month Check-In

According to Lexus Canada, this visit includes:

About oil changes: Lexus Canada’s list for this visit doesn’t include an oil change. The guide specifically notes that GS F and RC F models get an engine oil and filter change at the 8,000 km visit. Ask your dealership exactly what your model’s visit includes.

Maintenance After the Complimentary Visits

The 2026 guide says Lexus maintenance is required every 6 months or 8,000 km, whichever occurs first, and that your dealer may recommend additional services based on your driving conditions. Lexus Canada also says an oil change is recommended at least every twelve months, even if you aren’t driving much.

Keep your records. The guide says that maintenance is the owner’s responsibility and that maintenance records and receipts should be passed to each later owner. It also excludes repairs caused by improper maintenance or missing required maintenance.

What the Warranty Doesn’t Cover

A warranty covers defects. It doesn’t cover wear, damage or the environment. The 2026 guide lists exclusions including:

Original-equipment tires are warranted by the tire manufacturer, not by Lexus.

Accessories

Genuine Lexus accessories bought with your new vehicle are covered for 4 years / 80,000 km. If you buy them later, coverage is the balance of the new vehicle warranty or 12 months / 20,000 km, whichever is greater. Lexus accessories installed somewhere other than a Lexus dealership are covered for parts only, for 12 months from purchase.

Roadside Assistance

Lexus Canada says new vehicles include 24-hour roadside and mechanical breakdown assistance in Canada and the continental US for 48 months with unlimited kilometres. Listed services include towing to the nearest Lexus dealer for a mechanical breakdown, battery boosts (including cold-weather starts), installing your spare for a flat tire, winching from a ditch, fuel delivery (5 litres included), lockout service and spare key delivery. The number is 1-800-26-LEXUS (1-800-265-3987). Coverage can be extended on an annual basis.

Buying or Selling a Used Lexus

The 2026 guide states that Roadside Assistance is transferable with the resale of the vehicle, together with the remaining original new vehicle limited warranty. These warranties apply to Lexus vehicles originally sold by an authorized dealer in Canada and normally operated in Canada, the US or US territories. If you’re buying privately, ask for the service records and confirm the warranty registration date with a Lexus dealer.

Want Coverage Beyond the Factory Warranty?

Lexus dealers offer Lexus Extra Care Protection (ECP) service agreements for added protection against unexpected repair costs after the factory coverage. Terms and pricing vary, so ask for the details in writing and compare them with how long and how far you plan to drive.
